Associate Professor Dr. Faruk Aylar, a faculty member in the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences of Ondokuz Mayıs University (OMÜ), pointed out that the main reason for the receding water levels in the delta is the increasing drought in recent years.
"There is a significant decrease in lake levels" Stating that the water levels in the delta are lower than in previous years, Associate Professor Dr. Aylar said, "The Kızılırmak Delta is one of Turkey's important wetlands. It is also an agricultural area of our region. In recent years, there has been a slight decrease in water levels in the delta. We observe this clearly, especially in lake levels. This is entirely related to drought. The lack of rainfall experienced throughout Turkey is deeply affecting Samsun as well."
