Coastal erosion, which has been ongoing for years in Samsun’s Atakum district, has come to threaten buildings and transportation routes along the shoreline. On the beaches of İncesu, Çatalçam, Altınkum, and Taflan, the sea’s erosion of the land has caused the foundations and walls of some structures to be undermined, and in some places, the sea has reached the road. Experts have stated that residential buildings, businesses, and cafes near the shore are at high risk and that urgent measures must be taken in the region.

Coastal erosion, which continues to affect the coastal section west of Atakum district, has caused serious damage to the shoreline. Particularly in areas where erosion has intensified recently, the ground around some cafes and businesses has eroded, and the bases of some structures’ walls have been hollowed out by the sea. The gradual retreat of the shoreline has raised concerns not only for structures along the coast but also for transportation routes. In particular, footage captured by drone showed the sea reaching the road in the İncesu area, posing a danger to vehicles.

“We must not allow excessive development within 100 meters of the shoreline.”
